The Lady Hornet attack proved to be too much for Lexington Thursday night, as SGC advances last the Tigers 4-0. The Lady Hornets came out of the gate fast, as Brynlee Butler perfectly played a through ball to Tetteybea Addo who beat the keeper to take a 1-0 lead in the first 3 minutes. The Hornet offense continued to press and look for opportunities. Then, Addo played a cross in front of the net, and left wing Gracie Flowers one timed beautifully into the back of the net raising the score to 2-0. This would be the score at half.
The Hornets continued to look for scoring opportunities in the 2nd half, but every shot either seemed to hit the cross bar or get saved. Finally, in the last 10 minutes of the game, Senior Aly Goodman chipped a ball over the top to Addo, who was able to fend off some very handsy defense, and place the ball in the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-0. The Hornets continued to play to the final whistle as Sam Crews placed a corner kick at the back post, and Senior Hannah Hansbrough crashed in to net the final tally with 14 seconds left in the game.
The Hornet defense proved to be a stalwart again, allowing 4 shots on goal for the entire night. Sadie Nelson shut down each opportunity earning her 4th consecutive clean sheet.
The Lady Hornet will host rival Chester County on Thursday night in the Region 7AA Championship.
