The SGC Lady Hornets started off the season with a bang, beating Trenton Peabody 9-0 in the first leg of the Gibson County Soccer Championship. Gracie Flowers scores early and often, netting the first goal 40 seconds into the match, and having a hat trick 20 minutes into the the match. Freshman Ella Piercey had a strong start to her high school career, netting 2 goals. Brynlee Butler had 2 goals on the night, showing versatility in the midfield. Hannah Hansbrough and Tetteybea Addo showed veteran leadership by adding 1 goal and 1 assist each. Sam Crews and newcomers Samantha Quintana and Emily Quintana each added an assist.
The defense looked stout, limiting Peabody’s attach to one shot in goal. Sadie Nelson made the save, giving her one for the season, while also earning her first clean sheet.
South Gibson will travel to Gibson County on Tuesday for the second leg of the GCSC Tournament.
