The SGC Lady Hornet Soccer team defeated Lexington 3-1. The game was an extremely physical game with several fouls being called on each team. Aly Goodman lead the Hornet attack, with 2 goals and 1 assist. She played a through ball over the top of the Lexington defense to Freshman Tetteybea Addo, that lead to the Hornets’ first goal of the game. On the ensuing kickoff, Goodman stole the initial pass from Lexington, drove the ball into the box, where she got fouled. She converted the PK to give SGC a 2-0 lead. The goals were 25 seconds apart. Both teams struggled to find good looks the remainder of the half.
The second half started with more of the same, with neither team really finding any good looks. About 15 minutes into the half, Lexington attempted to put a ball towards the keeper. The ball deflected off of defender Sam Crews, and was called for a handball in the box. Lexington converted the PK to make the score 2-1. Lexington dialed up more pressure and tried to get more shots on goal but were unsuccessful. With about 1 minute left in the game, Goodman won the ball, made several impressive moves to get by 3 Lexington defenders, and hit a rocket from about 30 yards out to give SGC the decisive 3-1 lead.
The defense for the Hornets were once again stout, limiting any good chances for Lexington. Keeper Sadie Nelson finished the game with 2 saves.
